What now?

Although the big event of the year is over there are still lots of regattas to go to, not least of which is Nat Champs on 18-20 July and in held in Nottingham this year.

Also, there’s a club meeting on 16th July at 9pm to review the year and vote in a new captain/deputy captains/other committee positions.  It’s quite an important one for all members.

Remenham winners

Our one medal winner for 2008, Baz in the 5 seat of the Remenham 8, rowing as a Leander, Wallingford composite, beating a Furnivall/Leander composite.  Congratulations!

Post-Henley and the tennis

I can’t bear to actually watch the tennis any more…too exciting with Rafa and Roger at 2 sets all, with Nadal having missed his championship points…oof

So back to HRR, and apologies for the repetition on Friday, apparently I spoke too soon with regards the remote posting. Anyway, the Remenham crew were knocked out by the Furnivall/Leander boat, while the Brit four were comfortably past the Russians from Dynamo Club and into Saturday. Unfortunately they were just not able to do the same against Molesey who went on to win the final against Ortner.

View from the Remenham tent on Sunday afternoon

That left just Baz Moffat in a composite Remenham crew (Leander / Wallingford) as the only remaining Thames member in the competition…and they went on to beat the Furnivall / Leander composite in the final by 3 lengths.

Some very exciting racing in truly horrible conditions. Notably a very disappointing result for the Lea Wyfold crew who were in the lead against London on Saturday before running into the booms twice to give London the space to get past and win. Then a heartbreaking final in the Thames cup between Leander and Tideway Scullers, with Scullers chasing all the way down the course to bring it down to a canvas on the line – two very good crews.

Torrential rain and storms throughout Sunday made for a fairly miserable spectating experience but congratulations to all the winning crew.

(tennis is down to two games all in the final set and rain stops play…)

Remenham challenge and the brit four

Our Remenham 8 is up against furnivall/leander this morning at 1035 while the boys take on the Russians at 1215. Should be good racing!

Wyfold four go out

It looks like the Wyfold four have just completed their 2008 Henley campaign…they lost to Lea by one and a half lengths.

HRR, Day 2

HRR webcamThe Wyfold four are on at 17.10 against Lea.

Today’s racing.

Check in with the HRR webcam near the finish.

Anyone taking pictures on their phone today can text them straight to thamesrc@googlemail.com and I’ll post them. No naked anything though!!!! Unless you’re male and especially good looking. Obviously.

Brit four through

So after being inexplicably down by three lengths at the end of the island the four rated 37 down the rest of the course and managed to row through to win by three quarters of a length. So, good job but if anyone knows what happened at the start please let me know…

UPDATE: First, congratulations to me for figuring out how to post Graham’s report last night while watching Jack Johnson in Hyde Park…and second, the explanation, and to paraphrase Lubo: the oarlock came open and Ducks oar came out of it for 5 strokes so they were 3 boats behind by the time he’d got it back in (expletives removed).
